Projects in mountain biodiversity science
The GMBA project office and network:
- acquires projects to enable research on specific mountain biodiversity science topics
(e.g.Towards biodiversity-related opportunities, Mountain biodiversity and the SDGs, MoBiKo: Mountain Biodiversity Knowledge Graph) - joins projects as partner network
(e.g. BlueMount, 4° C + or more) - contributes to projects by supporting the identification of relevant partners, by supporting proposal writing, or by acting as partner for outreach, dissemination, and the science-policy interface
(e.g. MIREN RangeX, The Past, Present and Future of Alpine Biomes Worldwide, FishMe). - serves as an observer
(e.g. Alpine Life)
Ongoing projects
- MoBiKo: Mountain Biodiversity Knowledge Graph
In this project we propose to develop the Mountain Biodiversity Knowledge Graph ‘MoBiKo’, by extracting knowledge about mountain biodiversity status and trends from literature and store it in a graph database for analysis. [2025-2027]. - PPF: The Past, Present and Future of Alpine Biomes Worldwide (PPF-Alpine)
This project aims to take a deep dive into the biogeographical history of alpine systems on a global scale and decipher the drivers of present-day alpine biodiversity. [2022-2025]. - FishME: Social and ecological effects of Fish removal in Mountain Ecosystems
This project aims at delivering the knowledge base to understand trade-offs between the economic and societal benefits of fish introductions and the impact of fish stocking on mountain aquatic ecosystems. [2022-2025].
Past projects
- Toward biodiversity-related opportunities for sustainable development: a global social-ecological mountain comparison
This project provided a global analysis and comparison of biodiversity-related opportunities for sustainable development in mountain ranges around the world [2018]. - Mountain biodiversity and the Sustainable Development Goals: knowledge for synergistic action
This project provides policy-relevant knowledge on opportunities for sustainable management and conservation of mountain biodiversity (SDG15.4) [2020-2023]. - 4° C + or more: Swiss landscapes under climate change
This project raises public awareness about the effects of climate change on typical (cultural) Swiss landscapes [2023]. - BlueMount phase I: A blueprint for a social-ecological Observatory of Switzerland’s Mountains
This project aimed at developing the roadmap for a long-term social-ecological observatory of the Alps of Canton de Vaud and Valais [2020]. - BlueMount phase II: Un observatoire intégré des environnements de montagne au service de la recherche et des politiques publiques [2021-2023].
